Ramsay Health Care agrees to acquire BMI Nottingham
Hospital
Ramsay Health Care (“Ramsay”) has agreed to acquire the BMI
Nottingham hospital from General Healthcare Group. Ramsay is the
largest private hospital operator in Australia and the fourth
largest private hospital operator in the UK following the
acquisition of Capio UK and its portfolio of 30 UK hospitals in
November 2007. The Nottingham hospital is Ramsay’s first bolt-on
acquisition in the UK and will be a valuable addition to Ramsay
UK’s portfolio.
David Hillier, Chief Executive of Ramsay Health Care UK, said:
“The Nottingham hospital has an excellent local reputation, and
fits extremely well with Ramsay’s values and practices. We look
forward to welcoming the Nottingham staff and clinical Consultants
to Ramsay Health Care UK.”
Ramsay Health Care operates hospital facilities throughout the
UK, with NHS Treatment Centres, diagnostic imaging services,
neurological rehabilitation centres and a Harley Street Clinic as
well as a network of private acute hospitals.
Ramsay Health Care has over 40 years’ experience in healthcare
and has grown to become a global hospital group operating over 100
hospitals and employing approximately 20,000 staff across
Australia, Indonesia and the UK. The recent expansion into the UK
witnessed a smooth transition for staff, clinical Consultants and
most of all for patients, and the acquisition of the Nottingham
hospital is expected to follow in similar fashion.
David Hillier continues: “The change of ownership will not
affect patient care in any way. We look forward to working with
local GPs to continue to treat patients with private health
insurance, from the NHS, and who choose to pay for their own
treatment.”
The BMI Nottingham Hospital is a private acute care hospital
offering a wide range of services notably in orthopaedics, general
surgery, urology and plastic surgery. It has 41 registered beds,
two theatres and 13 consulting rooms. Ramsay is also acquiring the
freehold to the property.
The acquisition is subject to closing conditions, including
regulatory and government approvals and consents.
