Oaks Hospital elects local hospice as Charity of the Year
Oaks Hospital, in Colchester, Essex, and its staff are very keen
to support local charitable causes and each year our employees
nominate a charity. The elected charity benefits from all our
fundraising initiatives for the year, with the objective of raising
a significant sum of money for one cause alone.
As a hospital we tend to choose a charity which is in some way
health-related and which is very close to the hearts of our
employees. Therefore, we are delighted to announce, for the second
year running, our chosen charity for the year is St Helena
Hospice.
During 2007 staff organised or participated in events both
in-house and out in the community. These included a summer ball
raffle, balloon race during a local fun run and a Family Fun Day
held at Colchester’s Castle Park, raising funds in excess of
£2,200.00.
Hospital Manager Ian Milne said, “I am very proud of our staff,
who have not only organised events to raise funds, but have given
their time freely to help the hospice. We hope to build upon the
successes of last year’s partnership and look at new ways of
supporting their work”.
Corporate Account Manager for the Hospice, Sarah Green said,
“The support from Oaks over the year has been fantastic. We were
thrilled to be their charity of the year during 2007 and are very
grateful for the hard work put into the fundraising by the members
of staff. It costs the hospice £4.5 million to provide care and
support in our community each year, and we rely heavily on the help
and generosity of individuals and organisations like Oaks to reach
this figure’.
St Helena Hospice in Colchester provides a wide range of
specialist palliative care services for people living in North
Essex who have an advanced, progressive, life-threatening illness.
The Hospice is open to all who need specialist palliative care at
no cost to patients or families.
