Cornwall staff walk over hot coals for charity!
Duchy Hospital, in Cornwall, have had a sizzling year for
charity fundraising, and recently handed over a cheque to Lady Mary
Holborow, Trustee of the Cornwall Community Foundation, in a
celebratory presentation.
The hospital has raised nearly £3,000 through events such as
coffee mornings, a Christmas Fair and book sales, but the
fundraising highlight of the year was funding and taking part in a
Firewalk, where volunteers were sponsored for walking over hot
coals! This event also raised over £3,000 through other local
companies who took part.
Sue Thomas, Business Development Manager at Duchy, explains:
“Duchy Hospital is very proud to be part of the Cornwall 100 Club,
which is a corporate philanthropy scheme run by the Cornwall
Community Foundation and gives businesses a way to make a real
difference to their local communities. We have had several
fundraising events but the Firewalk was the most exciting, because
it was a personal challenge as well. The money raised has been
given to the Cornwall 100 Club Fund and will be used to make grants
to small scale local groups and projects.”
