Pre operative assessment clinic
When you attend a pre-operative assessment clinic, you
will have completed and returned a pre-admission medical
questionnaire. This information has been checked by our nursing
staff to ensure your suitability for surgery in the hospital or
treatment centre.
Our intention is to carry out this theatre assessment at the
same time as your visit to the Consultant.
Outpatient Visit
This is where you meet your Consultant who will examine you and
discuss the proposed surgery. The Consultant will explain all of
your options as well as the possible risks involved. The consent
process will be explained in full before you are asked to sign a
form. You will be given a copy of this form to take away with you
and you are free to change your mind at any time.
General Information
You will need to indicate on your medical questionnaire
whether you have any specific dietary needs or religious
requirements that you wish to observe. Patients admitted for day
surgery need to ensure that they have a responsible adult to
collect them and, if you have had a general anaesthestic or
sedation, to remain with you at home for a minimum of 24 hours
following surgery. If you have any special needs or require
language translation please advise us before admission, or during
attendance at pre-admission clinic if you have an appointment.
