Discharge
Your Consultant will decide with you when you
are fit for discharge and inform the nursing staff who will provide
you with an information sheet detailing ‘dos and don’ts’ following
your particular operation.
You will also be given a letter for your GP stating the length
of your stay, details of your operation or treatment, arrangements
for any follow-up appointments and any discharge medication you
have been given.
Your Consultant will also send a detailed letter to your
referring clinician or GP within a week of your discharge,
explaining your operation or treatment and any required aftercare
which will be provided by Ramsay on behalf of the NHS.
Click here for your 24 hour helpline number. This should be
your first contact if you have any problem after you have been
discharged. This helpline is answered by experienced clinical staff
with access to your medical records.
Take-home medication
This will be provided to you on discharge. It may include
pain-relieving tablets, which you can take in accordance with the
written instructions on the packaging. If the medication you are
given contains paracetamol, you will be given a written information
sheet advising you to avoid taking any other paracetamol-based
medications. It is essential in the initial post-operative phase
that you take these medications on a regular basis in accordance
with the written instructions on the packaging.
Suture removal/dressing service
If this is required, you will be given an appointment for suture
removal or dressings in your discharge information pack.
