Haemorrhoid and Proctology
The Lancashire Haemorrhoid and Proctology Centre is led by four
specialist General/Colorectal Consultant Surgeons to provide
patients with a comprehensive service for the treatment of
disorders affecting the colon, rectum and anus.
Services
- Onsite diagnostics (Colonoscopy/Sigmoidoscopy, Imaging and
Pathology)
- Benign colorectal conditions
- Fissures
- Haemorrhoids
- Rectal bleeding
- Abscesses / Fistula
- Suspected bowel cancer
The Centre uses the latest surgical and non surgical techniques
and treatments to ensure patients are treated with dignity, quickly
and effectively, focusing on less invasive procedures wherever
practical.
As well as insured and self paying patients, the Centre also
treats eligible NHS patients. More information on NHS eligibility
and access can be gained by contacting your nearest hospital listed
below.
Treatment for haemorrhoids (piles)
In addition to traditional treatments for piles, such as banding
and the more radical haemorrhoidectomy, the Centre is one of the
few locations in the UK that provides the Haemorrhoidal Artery
Ligation Operation (HALO). This technique is a relatively new
procedure which treats most haemorrhoids successfully without
surgical cutting and therefore results in less pain, less recovery
time and less risk of infection compared to conventional treatment.
Some minor cases can be treated under local anaesthetic and most
patients can return to normal activities within a few days.
Suspected bowel cancer
If diagnosed at an early stage, bowel cancer can be successfully
treated in over 90% of cases. The early symptoms for bowel cancer
are very similar to less serious problems with the bowel so it is
important to recognise any unusual changes (eg. rectal bleeding or
change in bowel habit for more than three weeks; severe
abdominal pain and/or unexplained weight loss) and act quickly to
get them investigated. The Centre is happy to advise patients or
GPs with specific cases.
