Patients of the Orwell Private Patient Unitwill have their procedure carried out in the Cardiothoracic Centre (CTC) theatre suite or within the CTC Catheter Laboratories. Operating theatres have systems which change and filter the air in the operating theatre compliant with rigorous national standards. This makes the operating theatres ultra clean.
To maintain this consistent high level, a consultant microbiologist participates in the Hospital Infection Control Team and advises on all relevant issues. Microbiology reports are analysed and
collated to determine any indicators of hospital acquired infection.
Activity of both departments is predominantly elective but urgent and emergency activity is also undertaken.
