The Orwell suite is an eight bedded unit caring for both medical and surgical patients. Private patients requiring an inpatient or day stay will be cared for in private rooms within the Unit, all of which have en-suite facilities. Patients are looked after by trained nurses supported by healthcare assistants.
All patients must be admitted under the care of a consultant. Junior doctor cover is available for 24 hour on site medical support. We have a manager, senior nurse managers, and staff supported by a senior nurse specialist for infection control, dietetics and critical care.
Although we very rarely have a patient with MRSA or other infections in the Hospital, they have nearly always been transferred from another another hospital or nursing home, and are isolated until they are free of infection.
All patients undergoing major surgery are screened at our pre-admission clinic for MRSA. Emergency admissions are isolated until tested and clear. All staff are also trained to understand the importance of hand washing when dealing with patients.
Call 01268 394 216 (available 24 hours a day) to contact a senior nurse on duty. Admissions for urgent cases can be arranged by the senior nurse on duty, who will seek the appropriate consultant who is willing to care for the patient.
A private ambulance can be arranged if required.
