Ramsay hospitals honoured in national awards
Five Ramsay hospitals have been named as some of the top
healthcare employers in the UK. The hospitals were honoured in the
Healthcare 100, organised by national magazines Nursing Times and
Health Service Journal.
Rivers Hospital, in Hertfordshire, was awarded 4th place in the
poll, which is judged by the views of employers and their staff,
and analysed by leading research firm Ipsos MORI. The polls are
open to all healthcare providers, including NHS organisations.
Ramsay’s Blakelands NHS Treatment Centre, in Milton Keynes, Duchy
Hospital, in Truro, Nottingham Woodthorpe Hospital, and Winfield
Hospital, in Gloucester, also made the prestigious list.
The NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, one of the
sponsors of the awards, said: ‘a good employer and good people
management means better safety and quality of care’ for patients.
Research by the Corporate Leadership Council shows that employees
try 57% harder and perform 20% better when they feel engaged in
their workplace.
Jill Watts, Ramsay’s Chief Executive, said: “Making the top 100
list is a tremendous achievement. We have an excellent workforce at
Ramsay and constantly receive good feedback from our patients, but
it is an additional honour for our staff to be recognised at
national level.”
Ramsay was also recently praised in a national report by the NHS
Confederation, for their work as an independent provider of NHS
services. Ramsay’s Clifton Park NHS Treatment Centre, in York,
featured as a case study for junior doctor training, in the report
‘New providers, new solutions’, published in February 2009.
Ramsay constantly invests in the quality of facilities for staff
and for patients, and has committed to over £28million of funding
over the next two years for developments such as new theatres and
day case units. Rivers Hospital, which made 4th place in the
Healthcare 100 list, is currently developing a £3.5m day-case
facility and an additional operating theatre.
