The Cobalt NHS Treatment Centre in
Newcastle, opened in 2005, and specialises in the
delivery of NHS and private services for:
- General Surgery: hernia repair, varicose vein
surgery, minor skin procedures
- GI Endoscopy: gastroscopy, colonoscopy,
flexible sigmoidoscopy procedures
- Orthopaedics: hand surgery
Location
Located just outside Newcastle within the Cobalt Business Park,
this modern facility is designed for the assessment, diagnosis and
treatment for conditions on a day case basis.
Facilities
Facilities include an outpatient unit and a surgical unit
incorporating 2 theatres and dedicated recovery areas.
Referral
Referral to the Treatment Centre is
via GP and all
services are available directly or via
Choose and
Book. Following an
outpatient appointment
with a consultant if surgery is required the patient can then book
a time and date to suit their needs.
'One stop'
services are available for many services whereby the patient has
their consultation and procedure within the one visit to the
Treatment Centre.
Cobalt is open Monday to Friday and to accommodate lifestyle and
work commitments late evening outpatient appointments are
available for some services.

Infection control is fundamental and all patients are screened in
accordance with latest NHS guidelines.
Accessibility
The Treatment Centre has free car parking on
site and is accessible via the A1 and A19 along with a good
supporting public transport network.
All car spaces are close to the entrance providing same level
access. If a wheelchair is required they are available upon request
from reception.
MRSA screening policy compliance
Cobalt NHS Treatment Centre updated and approved MRSA policy in
March 2009 to include the national requirement to screen elective
admissions. This policy was implemented with immediate effect.
Compliance with the standards are fully met and 100% of elective
patients will be screened by end of March 2009.

Our Staff
All patients are under the care of a consultant, an anaesthetist
is available until discharge from the Treatment Centre and you will
at all times be looked after by experienced nurses, health care
assistants, technical and administrative staff. Patient
care and comfort are paramount and given
the highest priority by Treatment Centre staff.
