Pre-admission information
At the pre admission stage you would have completed
and returned your pre-admission medical questionnaire. This
information has been checked by our nursing staff to ensure your
suitability for surgery in the Treatment Centre.
Pre-operative assessment clinic
This is an assessment of your suitability for theatre and will
be carried out by one of our nurses who will ask you questions
about your health. We aim, where possible, to carry out this
assessment at the same time as your visit to see the Consultant.
This will save you making unnecessary journeys.
Outpatient visit
This is where you meet your Consultant who will examine you and
discuss the proposed treatment or surgery if needed. The Consultant
will explain all of your options as well as the possible risks
involved and the consent form will be explained in full before you
are asked to sign. You will be given a copy of this form to take
away with you and you are free to change your mind at any time.
If an outpatient appointment is not necessary for you, a consent
form and information will be sent directly to you before you attend
for your treatment or procedure. If you have any questions please
call the Treatment Centre. Your Consultant will then complete the
consent form with you at the time of your admission, confirming
that you still wish to proceed with the surgery.
General information
Please let us know if you have any dietary or religious needs.
We can prepare food for most requirements (Halal, vegetarian,
vegan, etc) as long as we know in advance. We can also provide
language translation, should you require - again as long as we have
been told before your visit to the Centre.
The Treatment Centres do not have mixed male and female wards,
and most are small, quiet hospitals with a high ratio of single
rooms with en-suite facilities. We believe that this will encourage
you to get a good night’s sleep, helping your recovery.
We recommend that you have a responsible adult to collect you
after surgery, and it is advisable that someone stays with
you for 24 hours after undergoing sedation or general
anaesthetic.
