Q. Do I need a doctor's referral for
physiotherapy treatment?
A. No, however we do recommend that you contact your private health
insurance company as they may require a medical referral to
authorise reimbursement of treatment charges.
Q. Is the cost of physiotherapy covered
by medical insurance?
A. Yes, if the physiotherapist is Chartered and registered with the
HPC (Health Professionals Council). All Physiotherapists working
for Ramsay Health Care UK are only employed if they comply
with this. It is advisable to check with your insurance company
before starting treatment as they may need to pre-authorise it.
Q. How do I know if a physiotherapist is
fully qualified?
A. At Ramsay, physiotherapists are not employed unless they have
produced valid registration documents from the Health Professionals
Council. This registration is renewed every two years and the
Physio manager has copies of the originals within the
department.
Q. Is physiotherapy treatment
appropriate for back and neck problems or is it only useful for
muscle injuries?
A. Chartered Physiotherapists are qualified to treat all spinal
problems. In fact a large percentage of their workload is made up
of back and neck problems.
Q. Can a physiotherapist
manipulate?
A. Yes, all Chartered Physiotherapists with the
appropriate postgraduate training can manipulate.
Q. How quickly will I be seen for my
first appointment?
A. We are normally able to offer you an appointment within 24 hours
- often on the same day.
Q. How long does a treatment session
last?
A. The initial assessment is normally 45 minutes, with follow up
sessions lasting 45 minutes.
Q. How many treatments will I
need?
A. There is no pre-determined number of treatments for a specific
conditions, but following your initial assessment, your
physiotherapist will discuss and agree a treatment plan with you.
They should be able to give you an approximate guide at this
point.
Q. What should I
wear?
A. Your physiotherapist will need to see the affected body part,
for lower limbs bring shorts, for back problems you may be required
to undress to your underwear.
