Who will be involved in my care?
The following people will be involved in your care:
- Bariatric Lead Nurse
- Dietician
- Physiotherapist
- Consultant
- Following initial patient enquiry, the patient will be
contacted by the bariatric lead nurse to ensure that correct
guidelines are met for surgery and information given
- If the guidelines are met and the patients wishes to proceed
they are advised to obtain a consultant referral where the
appropriate operation is discussed i.e. lap band or gastric
bypass
- The bariatric lead nurse is informed and date is arranged for
the patient to have pre-op investigations completed.The patient
will also be seen by the dietician and physiotherapist.
- The consultant in charge of the patients care will be informed
and pulse oxymetry will be performed to investigate any evidence of
sleep apnoea.
- The patient will be commenced on strict diet 7 days prior to
surgery to reduce the size of the liver.
- Patients admitted for surgery are seen by the bariatric lead
nurse.
- Patients will be seen by bariatric lead nurse, physio and
dietician post op.
- All contact numbers will be given on discharge for the
dietician, hospital and bariatric lead nurse.
- A date will be given for a band fill if appropriate.
- The patient will be asked to make 2 follow up appointments to
see both consultant and dietician.
- The bariatric lead nurse is always available for advice and
support.
