Our Specialist Rehab Services
High Dependency facilities
Within the Jacobs Neuro Unit there are dedicated bedrooms,
trained respiratory nurses and carers for the ventilated and
tracheostomy resident. These High Dependency facilities include
ceiling tracking hoists, wall mounted suction and oxygen
equipment.
Younger Persons Unit
The young persons unit based at the Gardens Neuro
Unit is geared to meet the specialist needs of young adults
ranging from 18-35 years of age onwards. In addition to the highly
specialised care we have a designated clinical nurse lead whose
interest is in younger people with learning difficulties.
We also provide a special activities co-ordinator who devises
group sessions, dedicated therapists music therapy and hydrotherapy
at a nearby pool, beautician and Sensory room on site, Outings and
trips in a fully adapted mini- bus are also arranged.
On - Site Therapy Team
Each centre benefit from a well equipped gym and a team of
highly regarded and skilled Neuro therapists (Physiotherapy, Speech
and Language and Occupational therapy) and therapy assistants who
have varying levels of experience and qualifications.
Gardens Neuro Unit and Jacobs Neuro Unit Centres
assist recovery wherever possible and specialise in slow stream
rehabilitation. Emphasis is placed on maximising each individual's
abilities, comfort and quality of life.
Seating Specialist
Seating specialist from Stanmore National Orthopaedic Hospital
is on site to assess seating systems and wheelchair provision for
residents within both Gardens Neuro Unit and Jacobs Neuro
Centres.
Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine
Dr Kwei Nyein from Northwick Park, Harrow will assess all
referrals for admission to both Centres and visit the centres on a
weekly basis for Doctors round, family meetings, case reviews, and
consultations.
Out reach Team from Northwick Park Regional Rehabilitation Unit
(RRU)
Consisting of a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine,
Consultant Physiotherapist, specialist neurological Nurse,
specialist Speech and Language Therapist and other
multidisciplinary team members as required visit on a monthly
basis. Both centres have a well established link with the RRU, who
offer advice and support to residents, staff and families.
General Practitioner Services
The Centres are served by a local G.P Dr Neil Roberts who has a
special clinical interest in Neurology who visits every day and who
is responsible for prescriptions, medical certificates and other
medical needs. An on call- system is in place for any medical
emergency that may require hospital admission.
On site medical back up and private medical services
from the co- located Rivers Hospital including medical,
surgical and diagnostic services.
Other professional Services
Other professional services visit regularly as required
including specialist palliative care, psychotherapist, chiropodist,
dentist, massage and aromatherapies therapists and optician.
Social Development
Social development as a registered care homes emphasis is placed
on a homely environment and social activities. Each Centre employs
activity organisers, who will work with the resident ,family and
staff to provide activities to contribute to an individuals overall
well being and fulfilment.
Activities include sensory stimulation (each centre has a
specially equipped sensory room), relaxation, film afternoons,
parties, excursions, seasonal events, facilitated computer access
(including specialist/adapted equipment) and the pursuit of
residents own interests.
