Academic Background

Mr Parmar is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in upper limb surgery at Liverpool Universities NHS Foundation Trust. He has specialist experience in trauma, joint replacement and arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery. Mr Parmar graduated from the University of Manchester in 2000. He underwent postgraduate training in Manchester and Stoke prior to working in Sydney, Australia. He then completed his training in the North West of England, gained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2010 and joined the Specialist Register in 2014. Mr Parmar was awarded competitive specialist fellowships at three world renowned units: Wrightington, Liverpool Upper Limb and Trauma at the Royal Liverpool Hospital. This allowed him to gain further experience of complex upper limb conditions and to become familiar with many treatment options, utilising both arthroscopic (keyhole) and open techniques. He has since visited centres in Europe and North America to acquire new skills including multiple visits to the Mayo Clinic in the USA. Mr Parmar is an enthusiastic teacher. He has organised national trauma courses and had been a regular instructor on the Advanced Trauma Life Support course for over ten years, including training the trainers for this course. He is heavily involved in teaching and assessing the next generation of potential consultants in the Mersey Deanery. He has been involved in organising and teaching at The British Elbow & Shoulder Society. He has ongoing research interests and has presented his work both nationally and internationally and is involved in a number of NIHR trials. Mr Parmar maintains a medicolegal practice writing a number of reports annually and being a subeditor for the OPiL Bond Solon Training course. Mr Parmar volunteered for a year as a consultant in Malawi and has been invited to present his experiences both nationally and internationally. Subsequently he has maintained an active interest in supporting orthopaedics in developing countries. He has written chapters for textbooks specifically aimed at treating orthopaedic injuries in the austere environment. He is a founding member of the Implants for Malawi fundraising group. He is a trustee of two registered charities: North West Orthopaedic Trauma Alliance for Africa and The Frostick Foundation. Using this breadth of experience Mr Parmar aims to deliver patient focused care in treating a wide variety of upper limb conditions.
