Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy assesses, diagnoses, treats and works to prevent, disease and disability using physical means. It aims to help restore movement and function and reduce pain and stiffness in disorders that were present from birth, acquired through an accident or injury, or are the result of ageing or life-changing events. Physiotherapy can improve your physical activity while helping you to prevent further injuries.

Our Physiotherapy Department at Oaks Hospital is staffed by professional and experienced clinical Chartered Physiotherapists. We work to Physiotherapy Chartered Society Standards supporting best practice and will strive to provide the best in patient care.

The department contains 6 spacious treatment rooms and a large fully equipped gym. All physiotherapy patients have a treatment plan established on assessment by their physiotherapist, which is regularly reviewed during the course of physiotherapy treatment.

We aim to see urgent referrals within 48 hours of referral and non urgent referrals within five working days. Referrals are accepted from Consultants and GP’s. Self paying patients may refer themselves for physiotherapy. Discharge reports are sent to the patient and their GP or Consultant when the patient has completed treatment. Packages of care can be provided for patients with long term rehabilitation requirements.

Your first appointment

An initial assessment will take between 30 - 60 minutes, depending on the area being assessed. Your physiotherapist will assess and diagnose the problem, and help you understand what is wrong. They will work with you to develop an effective treatment plan that takes into account your lifestyle, leisure activities and general health.

Insured patients

Oaks Hospital is recognised by all major insurance companies. If you have medical insurance, you must contact your insurer prior to your visit for pre-authourisation. Please note consumables (i.e. walking aids, Aircast boots, lumbar supports, heel pads, wrist splints etc) are not usually covered by insurance, so you will be expected to pay for these separately as required.

Self-paying/uninsured patients

We are pleased to provide physiotherapy services to patients paying their own fees. However, we do ask you to pay immediately after each treatment at the Physiotherapy reception desk before leaving. This can be settled using a debit or credit card, cheque or cash.
