Day Case Joint Surgery

The possibility of going home on the same day as surgery, following a knee replacement or hip replacement has been offered by several leading orthopaedic hospitals around the world for a few years, and it is now available at Rivers Hospital!

What are the benefits of a day case surgery? 

There are several advantages to day case surgery as opposed to a prolonged hospital stay; such as reduced risk of infection and blood clots, less pain, and the rehab and recovery is both quicker and simpler. Previous patients reported appreciating having more autonomy in there recovery as well as being back in their own bed. 

Am I eligible for a day case surgery?  

  • Do you consider yourself to be in good health?
  • Have you got somebody at home with you for at least 48 hours following discharge?
  • Are you currently managing safely at home?

If you answered all these questions YES, it's likely you would be eligible for your surgery to be done as a day-case. Please contact us, or speak to your surgeon for further information.
