West Midlands Hospital Opens Second Laminar Flow Theatre

As part of our site developments at West Midlands Hospital, we have recently invested into opening our second laminar flow theatre.

Laminar flow relies on the use of ventilator systems that use fans to generate a positive air pressure in the roof of the theatre. The fans are connected to high efficiency particulate air filters to remove bacteria and other debris.

Stewart Jones, Theatre Manager spoke to us about the impact the second laminar flow theatre will have for the hospital, our patients and also the theatre team. “Having a second Laminar flow theatre gives us the option of providing more Orthopaedic Arthroplasty procedures each month which will help with Private referrals and mostly help with the NHS waiting list. It also gives the staff the option of expanding their scrub expertise after additional training in Orthopaedic competencies for their CPD”.

We were delighted to welcome back Mrs Ahmed to West Midlands Hospital. Mrs Ahmed was the first patient to have surgery in the second laminar flow theatre and met with Hospital Director Chris Gendall, the nursing team, and her Consultant General Surgeon, Mr Camprodon.
