All patients at The Berkshire Independent Hospital, regardless of whether they are Private or NHS patients, receive the best quality of care. In most cases, your first appointment will be with a Consultant in our Outpatient Department. Here, you will receive a thorough assessment, any required investigative procedures, for example, an x-ray. Your consultation may result in further tests or another clinic appointment being required, a surgical procedure being planned or you may be discharged back to the care of your G.P. The consultant will write to your G.P and you may receive a copy of this letter.

In the case that you require a surgical procedure, we recognise that this prospect can be daunting, especially if it is your first time in a hospital. Please be assured that all our hospital staff are committed to making your time with us as comfortable and restful as possible. During your time in hospital, you will be looked after by a team of experts whose aim is to ensure you are cared for in an efficient and friendly environment, whilst keeping you fully informed about your treatment from admission to the time you go home.

We use the latest in technological advances and many procedures can now be done safely as day procedures. This means you get the surgery you need with less time in hospital. You can enjoy the comforts of our first class facilities, your own room, free Wifi and nurse-led discharge.

If you need to stay overnight, visitors are welcome to visit you at reasonable times of the day, subject to medical considerations.

Your discharge from hospital will be discussed with you upon admission though this can vary depending on your recovery. You will be advised by your Consultant or nurse of an approximate time that you will be ready to leave hospital so that you can make arrangements for a family member or friend to collect you and accompany you home. If you need to take any medication following your departure, this will be given to you when you are discharged.

In most cases you will need a follow up consultation with our surgeon. This outpatient appointment will be made before you leave or you will notified of your next appointment soon after. If you have any concerns or questions or are in need of advice following you discharge then you can telephone the hospital and speak to the senior nurse on duty.

Like all hospitals in the U.K, The Berkshire Independent Hospital is subject to regulation by the Care Quality Commission. We are proud to announce that we have been rated Good CQC regulation in the most recent inspection.
