Training and Development

At Ramsay Health Care UK, we believe that it is important to place training and personal development right at the heart of the organisation, to provide opportunities for our people to learn, to develop and succeed in achieving their full potential. Our overall policy is to develop our employees to continually improve both their personal and business performance. It is the aim of the Company to provide appropriate and effective training and development so that:

  • All new employees are introduced effectively to the Company

  • Employees are prepared both for operational change and to take advantage of promotional opportunities which may arise

  • Employees are encouraged to acquire additional skills and qualifications, which will assist them in their career with the Company

Ramsay Academy

The Ramsay Academy covers all learning and development activity at Ramsay.

Onboarding

Ramsay Health Care UK recognise the fact that their staff are their greatest asset, and the right recruitment and induction processes are vital in ensuring that the new employee becomes effective in the shortest time.

We do our best to help our new employees become a productive member of our staff through induction and training. A comprehensive Staff Induction Handbook is utilised alongside a buddy system to ensure that new employees are inducted appropriately.

Mandatory Training

In addition to statutory training, Ramsay provides a comprehensive range of training which we have determined as mandatory for various roles. Much of our mandatory training is delivered through e-learning and this is made available to new employees prior to their first day of employment. These are complemented by face to face training upon induction and thereafter continued as either e-learning or face to face training at regular intervals.

E-learning

In addition to mandatory modules, our e-learning platform hosts a broad range of training topics, including a suite of management development programmes.

CPD, Mentorship & Supervision

Ramsay Health Care UK actively encourages CPD in line with an individual’s professional body’s requirements. This can take a variety of forms from face to face training, on the job learning and action learning sets. CPD is supported by qualified mentors and clinical supervision.

Apprenticeships

Ramsay Health Care UK will be launching a new National Apprenticeship Scheme in 2014. The scheme aims to encourage young people to join Ramsay at the very start of their career and gain valuable qualifications and life long skills. Initially there are apprenticeships in Health Care, with other frameworks coming on stream later. The Apprenticeship is run for Ramsay by North Hertfordshire College, a well recognised centre for learning.

City & Guilds Accreditation

Ramsay Health Care UK is proud to be an approved centre for City and Guilds and the Institute of Leadership and Management. This allows us to offer accredited programmes such as the Perioperative Support Care Worker

Personal Development

Personal development is a lifelong process which enables staff to assess their skills and qualities, to consider their aims in life and to set goals which will help them to maximise their potential.

Personal development includes activities that improve awareness and identity, develop talents and potential, build human capital and facilitate employability, enhance quality of life and contribute to the realization of dreams and aspirations. Ramsay Health Care actively encourages staff in their personal development.

Management Development Framework

The Management Development Framework is a range of Master Classes, workshops, e-learning and webinars created to develop our managers. It is linked to the Institute of Leadership and Management qualifications enabling our managers to build their management skills and gain a qualification at the same time. Activities include opportunities to understand how to manage change and innovation and ensure that managers are maximising the potential in their teams and themselves.

Our Heads of Department (HoD) programme covers all the skills a new HoD requires to work with their teams and the processes at Ramsay, including leadership and team building, understanding essential HR practices, how to use Ramsay systems and Health and Safety.

Leadership Programme

Each year, Ramsay selects highly motivated, ambitious junior managers to participate in its prestigious leadership programme. Participants rotate across differing sectors of the organisation to develop their practical skills whilst simultaneously completing a fully funded MBA. It is envisaged (and evidenced based upon previous participants) that having completed the programme, employees will be suitably skilled to take up a General Manager or equivalent role.

Scholarship Fund

Ramsay recognises that in addition to its wide offering of internal training and development opportunities, many employees will want and need to undertake formal, external qualifications in order to develop their skills and advance their careers.

Each year, Ramsay provides financial support to a wide range of employees wishing to embark upon formal qualifications. Qualifications can be managerial, clinical or vocational and previous examples have included an MSc in Acupuncture in Healthcare, Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy, MBAs, CIM Professional Certificate in Marketing, MSc in Health Informatics, Health & Safety NEBOSH Diploma and NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care.
