The Ramsay Academy

The Ramsay Academy is recognised and valued for providing high quality, innovative and memorable learning opportunities underpinned with nationally recognised qualifications.

Ramsay Health Care UK is proud to be an approved centre for City and Guilds and the Institute of Leadership and Management. This allows us to offer accredited programmes such as the Perioperative Support Care Worker.

Our Management Development Framework is a range of Master Classes, workshops, e-learning and webinars created to develop our employees. It is linked to the Institute of Leadership and Management qualifications enabling our employees to build their management skills and gain a qualification at the same time. Activities include opportunities to understand how to manage change and innovation, presenting professional presentations, dealing with difficult situations and maximising the potential in their teams and themselves.

We also offer 3 internal development programmes.

The Leadership Programme

This programme will take exceptional individuals through a two year programme where they will have the opportunity to project manage business critical projects in their own unit, their region and nationally. They will undertake a qualification, such as an MBA, that is most suited to them as identified in a personalised Development Plan. They will receive Leadership coaching and mentoring from an executive director.

This is a fantastic opportunity for those aspiring to become senior managers, to find out more about the workings of Ramsay and learn the skills to become a Hospital Director or Senior Manager at Ramsay Health Care UK. All previous participants are now Hospital Directors or senior corporate managers.

Aspiring Leader

This is aimed at those who have the potential to be senior Heads of Department (HoDs) and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) within 3-5 years. It is a two year programme with 12 face to face modules. Participants will work together on a group project in addition to their own individual projects. They will receive a personalised development plan and individual coaching. The programme will also provide a Level 6 (degree equivalent) management qualification following a number of assignments and assessments.

The previous cohort has already seen participants become an Operations Manager, Quality Improvement Lead and EPR Change Manager, with more promotions likely.

LEAP

This is a programme targeted at those who have the potential to be the HoDs of the future. This programme is an 18 month programme carrying a level 3 management qualification. Six face to face sessions will be complemented by online learning and forums hosted by subject matter experts. Participants will have their own individual projects and work together on a group project within their region.

Apprenticeships

Here at Ramsay Health Care we offer the opportunity for training in a real life work environment; you will develop and gain new skills whilst learning a salary and receiving a recognised qualification. We can offer apprenticeships in many areas including a degree in Nursing and clinical settings, as well as within our corporate services.

Emma Del Busso
Emma Del Busso, Learning and Development Coordinator:
“I joined Ramsay in June 2016 as a Learning and development apprentice, completing an apprenticeship in Business Administration. I received 1 day off each week to complete my apprenticeship paperwork and webinars. My team were really supportive and made sure I was always given this dedicated time. I achieved my Level 2 qualification in July 2017 and was offered the opportunity to start my Level 3 which I accepted. Again, I received lots of support and encouragement from everyone here at work and once I had completed this in 2018, I was offered a substantive role as Learning and Development Coordinator, based in our Bedford offices. I was excited to find that once I took the substantive role, opportunities to continue to learn did not end and I was offered a place to start my CIPD qualification, specialising in Learning and Development. I am hoping that I will be finished this by the end of 2020. I love my role here at Ramsay and work in a fantastic team. I am happy to work for a company which offers so many training and development opportunities and I feel that I have lots of options ahead of me for a future with Ramsay Health Care. I have enjoyed doing my apprenticeship so much, I now mentor other apprentices in the company and as Ramsay continue to increase our number of apprentices; I would love to get involved in supporting and coordinating this even more.

Nathan Gower
Nathan Gower, IT Support Technician
“I began at Ramsay in 2015, completing a Level 2 apprenticeship in IT Support. Rather than having time off the job weekly, my apprenticeship meant that I had 1 week each month of training where I attended lessons, completed exams and assessments, spending time with fellow apprentices. I really enjoyed being given a workload early on and being able to learn on the job, it meant I could build working relationships and feel like I was really achieving and learning, it really helped my confidence. I completed my apprenticeship in 2016 and was keen to continue on with learning and do my level 4. My manager supported this and I ended up completing this in 2018. Ramsay really values the apprenticeship scheme and in 2018 they held an Apprenticeship awards ceremony and I won the Level 4 apprentice of the year award. It felt really great to be recognised. When I finished my Level 4, I was offered a permanent role in the 2nd line IT team as an IT Support Technician. I really enjoy my job and my favourite parts are helping people and solving problems. I am hoping that in the coming years I can complete one of the internal Ramsay leadership programmes so I can hopefully be promoted and one day become a manager here in Ramsay.

Care

We have a number of apprenticeships that have been developed to recognise the competencies and skills needed to deliver high quality compassionate care and support. If you are new to care or looking to step into a leadership role we have all the support you need. These are delivered through a mix of online learning, conferences and face to face assessments and will take up to 15 months to complete. During this time you will receive support and guidance from your manager, a dedicated mentor and of course Ramsay Health Care

Nurse

We have partnered with Bucks New University and can offer a degree apprenticeship (BSc Hons in Nursing). This is ideal if you have previous experience in healthcare and are looking to gain Registered Nurse status with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). You will complete 9 week placements in the following areas – surgical, medical, care of the elderly and community to give you a good insight into the different clinical settings. This will be completed over a 42 month period whilst being supported by your manager, Ramsay Heath Care and the university.

Scholarship Fund

Ramsay recognises that in addition to its wide offering of internal training and development opportunities, many employees will want and need to undertake formal, external qualifications in order to develop their skills and advance their career. Each year, our employees are given the opportunity to apply for financial support to study in a wide range of qualifications of their own choice. This could be managerial, clinical or vocational subjects and previous examples have included an MSc in Acupuncture in Healthcare, Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy, CIM Professional Certificate in Marketing, MSc in Health Informatics and NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care.

MBA's

Ramsay has supported a number of their senior leadership team to complete their Master’s Degree in Business Administration via Henley Business School through the apprenticeship route. This is an excellent opportunity to develop management capability through flexible work based assignments over a period of 31 months.
