  • Had partial knee replacement here, it was OK...... there was an admin mare between all parties which meant i had to pay for the op myself. The care was the care, nothing really stood out that woudl make me say kick teh NHS into touch as these guys are ace, it was just...... OK...... and definately quicker

  • Successful surgery to remove gallbladder. No complications, or side effects other than what is expected with the type of surgery. I was looked after at every stage. The nurses were fantastic, as were the doctors. I felt really safe (surgery nerves). The hospital was very clean, professional and a genuinely nice place to go for surgery.

  • I had a total knee replacement last week with a spinal block. My whole experience was a great pleasure and has already brought life-changing results. I am looking forward to my other knee matching up to the first! Firstly I must offer my sincere gratitude to Mr Gordon Higgins, (now viewed by me as a god!), whose outstanding expertise has given me hope for the future. I am also hugely grateful to the anaesthetist (I didn’t catch his name) who diagnosed my sleep apnea. Now I have a CPAP machine he might well have prolonged my life. I was so relaxed in the theatre that I happily dozed off during the surgery. I was not sedated and felt completely at ease. The entire staff are worthy of praise: each and every nurse showed warmth and empathy. The chefs even catered for my ketogenic diet! The food was delicious. I was lucky enough to be allocated this hospital on the NHS. Despite not paying anything for my care, I was treated like a princess.

  • My short stay at Mount Stuart Hospital for surgery was marked by the care and consideration of the staff. I was exceptionally well looked after by the nurses and caterers. My only gripe was that, post op, I could not do justice the excellent food provided.

  • I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the outstanding hospital staff, especially surgeon Ben Holroyd, for the exceptional quality of care I received. From start to finish, everything was fast and efficient while still feeling calm and well organised. The surgeon and team were incredibly supportive, caring, and reassuring, which made a stressful experience much easier. Their professionalism and compassion truly stood out, and I felt I was in very safe hands throughout. Thank you all for your dedication and kindness.

  • It went very well I will not need to re-visit unless I have a problem which if I do i will be happy to do so as I found my consultant and the hospital very worthy of the 5 stars I have given in this survey.

  • I can’t find a way of leaving a second review so have to edit my original one which was for a stay in 2023:- 2) Jan 2026. I have just had a shoulder replacement and again I received brilliant service, all staff were attentive and caring. Very informative and couldn’t do enough for me. Thank you so much. 1)2023: I have just had a Right Total Knee Replacement at Mount Stuart, a few years ago I had my left knee replaced at a different hospital and the whole experience was far superior this time. All staff, doctors and nurses are friendly and professional and although they are busy they always give you their full attention and a cheery word . My surgeon was very friendly and approachable and I am very pleased with my result so far. Also the food was lovely.

  • 10 days since my TKR operation. This was an NHS planned surgery. The consultant took the extra effort and time to decide which operation was best for me and kept me with him through his thought processes. I felt totally included in the final decision. The staff, nurses, cleaning, cooks and dinner service were second to none. At no time did I feel I was bothering them. A wonderful experience at Mount Stuart and I would highly recommend their services. Just brilliant 👏

  • I went to mount Stuart for a hand operation through the NHS. I wondered if I'd be treated differently as I wasn't paying for it but my fears were unfounded. Every single one of the staff were absolutely fantastic. From the secretaries I spoke to with enquiries, to the reception staff that greeted me when I arrived for the procedure and the two members of nursing staff in the day care unit that looked after me (Nikki AND Michelle?) - all superlative. Likewise the doctors. My consultant/ surgeon (Mr John Hardman) was also brilliant; very little pain afterwards, no pain relief needed, and I'm led to believe a lot of that is down to the skill of the surgeon. Anaesthetists were brilliant too.... very attentive, and absolutely put me at my ease even though I was not an easy patient due to potential cardiac arrhythmia issues. I have always found the staff at Torbay hospital brilliant, but we all know the pressure the NHS is under and it shows. This experience was on a different level; I would find a way to pay to go here for elective surgery in future. My only gripe, and where I feel The NHS does better, is pre-operative information so you know what to expect and what you'll be able to do after the procedure. I am self employed, so I needed to know when I'd be able to return to work, but wasn't given clear - or at least what turned out to be reliable - advice on this. Perhaps not surprising, given the bulk of the procedures they'll be doing will be elective, but could easily have been rectified with a patient Information sheet or website link at the initial consultation (I did search and couldn't find any clear advice). I have fed this back to them so hopefully they'll take it on board but happy to discuss further if anyone wants to talk to me about it!!
