Ramsay Health Care UK is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Mr Sabur Malek, who has been named Hip & Knee Surgeon of the Year 2025 (UK) and honoured with the GHP Patient Care Excellence Award 2025.
Mr Malek, a leading consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hip and knee replacements, has earned national recognition for his exceptional surgical volume and patient outcomes. According to data published by the National Joint Registry (NJR), he is the highest-volume hip and knee replacement surgeon in the UK, performing an unmatched 1,689 procedures between April 2021 and March 2024- including 753 hip replacements, 547 total knee replacements, and 363 partial knee replacements.
His commitment to minimally invasive techniques and the Enhanced Recovery Pathway (ERP) has transformed patient experiences, enabling faster recovery and reduced hospital stays. Mr Malek’s pioneering work includes launching the Day Surgery Joint Replacement Programme at Stafford Hospital, which was recently recognised by the British Association of Day Surgery for completing 100 successful procedures in just nine months.
With nearly 700 verified patient reviews on Doctify - 99% of which are five-star - Mr Malek’s reputation for compassionate care and surgical excellence is well-earned. Patients consistently praise his professionalism, kindness, and life-changing results.
Mr Malek’s journey began in Baroda, India, and has taken him through extensive training in Merseyside, Wales, and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. After years of service in the NHS, he now practices privately at Rowley Hall Hospital and West Midlands Hospital, both part of Ramsay Health Care UK, while continuing to treat NHS patients via the e-Referral Service.
Reflecting on his achievements, Mr Malek said:
“Reaching nearly 700 joint replacements was never a target—I don’t treat patients as numbers. Efficiency, teamwork, and surgical precision are key. I’m proud of our STAR approach and grateful to every colleague who helped build this practice.”
We congratulate Mr Malek on this well-deserved recognition and thank him for his continued dedication to excellence in orthopaedic care.
