Pinehill Hospital, part of Ramsay Health Care UK, is pleased to announce that it treated over 10 patients suffering from Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) using the HYDROS Robotic System, the next-generation, AI-powered platform for Aquablation therapy. Pinehill is one of the first hospitals in the UK to offer Aquablation therapy using this next-generation, AI-powered platform.
BPH symptoms
As men age, their prostate tends to increase in size. This can put pressure on the urethra and affect urine flow. This enlargement of the prostate is termed as BPH. This occurs when noncancerous cells of the prostate divide to make more cells. Prostate enlargement is often a natural ageing process and cannot be completely prevented. While BPH is not associated with the development of cancer, the two often go together. Distinguishing between them is an important part of the diagnosis process. BPH can also cause sexual issues, and medications normally prescribed to treat BPH have side effects of erectile and ejaculatory dysfunction.
What is Aquablation Therapy?
Aquablation therapy is an advanced, minimally invasive treatment for BPH that uses imaging, robotics, and a heat-free waterjet to provide long-lasting relief with low rates of complications. Clinical studies have shown that Aquablation Therapy offers significant symptom relief and low rates of irreversible complications, across prostates of all sizes and shapes. It offers several benefits including improved urine flow and in comparison, to other treatments, there is an increased likelihood patients will preserve sexual function and continence1.
The HYDROS Robotic System
The HYDROS Robotic System represents the next evolution in the delivery of Aquablation therapy, combining cutting-edge technology with user-friendly features designed to deliver great outcomes for patients and healthcare providers. The system features AI-powered treatment planning with FirstAssist AI™, advanced image guidance, robotic resection, and a streamlined workflow designed to enhance efficiency, improve surgeon and staff experience, and deliver a more accurate and consistent treatment plan2.
The hospital has been offering Aquablation therapy for patients at Pinehill Hospital since Autumn 2023 and treated over 180 patients during this time.
First Patient who had the procedure said:
“Before treatment, my condition had deteriorated significantly. I found myself needing to use the toilet more and more frequently, and in October 2025, I suddenly became incontinent at night. That was particularly difficult – it was both distressing and humiliating, and it meant I had to start wearing incontinence pants just to manage.
I’ve known about Pinehill Hospital for many years as it’s my local private hospital. From the moment I arrived, my experience at Pinehill Hospital was excellent. The care I received from the entire team was professional, attentive, and reassuring throughout. When I first met Professor Vasdev, I was immediately struck by his confidence and clarity. He seemed to understand my condition straight away and explained exactly what needed to be done. Since having the aquablation procedure, the improvement has been remarkable. I no longer have that constant anxiety about where the nearest toilet is when I leave the house, it’s given me a level of freedom and confidence that I had lost.”
Professor Nikhil Vasdev, Consultant Urological & Robotic Surgeon, commented:
“I’m proud to have helped so many patients improve their quality of life. The new-generation HYDROS Aquablation Therapy System allows us to deliver a more personalised and precise treatment for men with enlarged prostates, helping improve urinary symptoms, recovery, and overall quality of life, while also enhancing the experience and efficiency for our clinical teams”
Duncan Barton, Hospital Director at Pinehill Hospital added:
“Pleased to have helped so many patients get back to the things they love. At Pinehill Hospital, we are at the forefront of technology, with our patients’ interests at the heart of everything we do. I’m very proud of the team, working together in treating over 180 patients with Aquablation Therapy. This new generation of Aquablation Therapy will further enhance the experience of our staff but also deliver greater outcomes to patients.”
