Woodthorpe Hospital in Collaboration with The University of Nottingham Medical School

Ramsay Health Care continues its commitment to supporting Nottingham Medical School Student Bursary to go overseas and get the very best out of their elective placement requirements. Over the last 3 years Ramsay UK and Ramsay Australia have strengthened the opportunities for UK med studies to undertake this opportunity, through the Ramsay Bursery.  In this cohort we have successfully sent another seven students. With two further Medical schools joining the programme for next year.

The relationship between Nottingham Medical School and Woodthorpe Hospital continues to go from strength to strength to support newly qualified doctors to gain invaluable knowledge and experience from overseas placements but also to look at the need across the training system to support at different levels and work together to provide the best outcomes and experience for Student Drs entering the healthcare system for the first time.

Ramsay Health Cares, Paul Scott, Hospital Director at Woodthorpe attended Nottingham Medical School on Thursday 30th April along with Bec Tinkler, Head of People Operations and Academy, to present the Ramsay Health Care plaque which highlights the students sent, and space for students yet to be offered this opportunity. They met with both Professor Claire Stewart, Dean and Head of the school of medicine and Dr Claire Sharpe, Dean of Education, to talk to this year’s successful students about what to expect and how to get the very most out of this opportunity.

Dr Claire Sharpe, Dean of Education said “Through our partnership with Ramsay Health Care, our final-year medical students have benefited from a truly transformative elective experience in Australia. The programme has opened doors to outstanding clinical and professional development opportunities, enabling students to experience a different healthcare system, broaden their perspectives and develop the confidence and adaptability that are so important for future doctors.

What has been particularly impressive is the collaborative spirit underpinning this initiative. The close working relationship between the University of Nottingham and Ramsay Health Care demonstrates the value of partnership in creating meaningful opportunities for students that might otherwise not be accessible. By connecting colleagues and clinicians across the UK and Australia, the programme has fostered a genuine exchange of ideas, innovation and best practice in medical education and patient care.

The feedback from students has been exceptional. They return not only with enhanced clinical insight, but also with a greater appreciation of global healthcare delivery, multidisciplinary teamwork and the importance of learning from different models of practice. This partnership is an excellent example of how organisations can work together to invest in the next generation of healthcare professionals while strengthening international collaboration and shared learning.”
