Patient Feedback

I was in for day surgery for an epigastric hernia repair yesterday. I would say the pre op assessment and check in procedure was great. The nurse on duty - Linda - I want to thank especially, please pass on my thanks to her as I couldn't find her when I was discharged to say goodbye. She and the recovery room staff - Charlotte was lovely too - really deserve praise and made the experience less nerve wracking for me and they did an amazing job looking after me. Thank you. I do have a complaint about the room. When shown to my room I was surprised to see just a chair in there and the room was cold. I had to wait from 7am till 1pm for my operation during which time I got very chilly. When finally wheeled back up from recovery, I was shocked to find k was expected to get up and out of my bed and back onto this chair! (See photo) One hour after abdominal surgery? It was very uncomfortable and chilly and meant I could not sleep, one thin blanket was provided. My lunch arrived at 15.30 (one plain sandwich, crisps and pot of tea) but the table designed to go over a bed, could not fit over my chair despite Linda trying her best so I struggled to reach anything easily and to pour the tea from a heavy pot was almost impossible from the chair. I do not understand why I was not allowed to keep my bed for those few hours before being discharged. When I expressed dismay I was told it was because I was a day patient and this is what happens. I have had day surgery at the Spire and a bed was in the room there. I was able to sleep and recover properly before being discharged. This would make me seriously consider using the Woodthorpe again. A shame when all the staff I encountered there were so friendly and lovely.
