I had bilateral cataract surgery under General Anaesthetic at Oaks Hospital last week. From my first consultation with Mr Chrys Dimitriou, through pre-assessment with a wonderfully kind and understanding nurse (Mihaela) and my admission and care last week, I cannot fault my experience. I am a very anxious patient -despite having a background in Health- but my fears were unfounded. The care I received was exceptional, the nurse who looked after me in the day unit (Katy) was very kind and compassionate and had read all my information regarding adjustments I needed (documented and shared by Mihaela) which was highly reassuring. The theatre team went above and beyond to make my experience comfortable and I felt very safe and able to be involved in decisions about my care. Special thanks to ODP Becky, Theatre Manager Clare, Anaesthetist Dr Jayasekara and the expertise of Mr Dimitriou. Only 24 hours post surgery I was able to watch tv and type emails on my phone! Also I would like to thank Mr Dimitriou’s secretary who patiently answered many questions in the weeks leading up to my surgery. Absolutely outstanding care. Thank you, Oaks!

Overall, I had a really positive experience at the hospital. The staff were incredibly kind, patient and understanding, especially after my surgery when I was struggling with my recovery. They made me feel cared for and were patient with me when I needed extra support, which made a real difference during what was a difficult and vulnerable time. My room was clean and comfortable, and the rest of the hospital was clean and well maintained too. The food was also good, which was a bonus when recovering from surgery! I really appreciated the kindness and patience shown by the staff throughout my stay. Having a clean, comfortable environment and people who treat you with care and understanding makes such a difference when you are in hospital. Thank you to everyone who looked after me and helped make my stay as positive as possible.
