Staff at Renacres Hospital in Ormskirk, took part in a ‘Wear It Pink’ day to raise money for life-saving breast cancer research. The event took place on Friday 28th October with a day full of fundraising activities including, an ‘information and awareness’ area for patients and staff to learn more about the disease and how to check for symptoms and a raffle with over 30 prizes included, kindly donated from local businesses. The theatre team, including the Consultants wore hot pink scrubs for the day which were kindly donated by the local NHS district general hospital; and the hospital chef even got involved by preparing special dishes for staff to enjoy, raising further funds. In total, the hospital raised over £3000.

Melanie Rutherford, Theatre Instrument Lead and Sarah Leatherbarrow, Theatre Stores Co-ordinator, organised the event and are both breast cancer survivors. Melanie said: “My diagnosis has made me more determined than ever to raise as much funds as possible to support breast cancer research and to raise awareness.”
