Mr Ong is only one of a handful of British doctors having had the privilege of training at both Cambridge and Oxford medical schools, graduating with a MA degree from Cambridge and medical degree from Oxford. Following this he spent time at the famous John Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute, before then training in the prestigious North London Ophthalmology training programme and at the world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital and Western Eye Hospital in London. Mr Ong has particular expertise and interests in cataract surgery (with the option of premium lens implantation) as well as retinal conditions such as macular degeneration. He is fully qualified to provide intravitreal injections and laser treatments. He is fellowship-trained in retinal diseases and cataract surgery. He has also published research and presented academic work at international conferences (such as the World Ophthalmology Congress) in places as varied as Seattle, Abu Dhabi and Budapest on age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. In addition to the services he provides at Ashtead Hospital, he also works for the NHS as a substantive Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust. Mr Ong derives pleasure from being a surgical trainer to junior ophthalmic surgeons.
