We are delighted to share that orthopaedic surgeon Mr Andrew Cattell has received international recognition for his expertise in the treatment of complex sports knee conditions. Mr Cattell has been awarded a prestigious Certificate of Excellence in Arthroscopic Knee Surgery by the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA).

He is reported to be the first surgeon in Britain and one of only a handful of surgeons worldwide to achieve the full ESSKA certification.
The accreditation recognises advanced expertise across a range of specialist knee procedures, including ligament reconstruction, meniscal surgery, patellofemoral surgery and osteotomy surgery. To achieve the qualification, Mr Cattell completed a rigorous programme of examinations, case assessments and practical surgical evaluations assessed by leading European surgeons.
Mr Cattell specialises in sports knee and knee replacement surgery and has already helped introduce innovative knee procedures within the North East, including performing a meniscal transplant procedure and supporting the development of advanced arthroscopic techniques.
This achievement reflects Mr Cattell's commitment to clinical excellence, ongoing education and delivering the highest standards of patient care.
