Information for patients

I am 75 years old and registered disabled, I had both of my knees cleaned out for any loose bits under general anaesthetic when I was 40 and 50 years old. Over the next 25 years both of my knees became seriously painful with osteoarthritis to the point where it was to painful to walk and my knees would often give way and I lost my balance and fell over many times. The pain was unbearable at times and I had to use a walker. I met Mr Sorial this year and he put me on the list for (any orthopaedic surgeon who could do the operation the quickest) I was very disappointed as I had done my research and heard that Mr Sorial had great reviews and excellent results but his list was to long and I probably would have to wait up to two years. Luckily Mr Sorial had a cancellation and I was offered the opportunity to have Mr Sorial do my complete knee replacement, I was ecstatic that I had got the surgeon I really wanted. I suffer greatly with fibromyalgia and I have huge spasms constantly going all over my body, I was very nervous that my leg would start to spasm whilst Mr Sorial was doing the operation. Mr Sorial came to see me just before the operation and really listened to my concerns and assured me this would not happen he has a calming reassuring manner that put my mind at ease. My operation took two and a quarter hours to complete and Mr Sorial came to see me after my operation and told me I had a brand new knee and that he had also straightened my leg. A few hours later after the surgery a physiotherapist came to see how I was and to what degree I could bend my knee. They call this day zero, I could bend my knee 110 degrees just hours after the operation, the next day 120 degrees my operation was a huge success with very little pain. The one bit of advice that Mr Sorial told me was not to put a pillow under my knee which is what I would automatically have done when I got home but to roll up a towel and put it under my ankle. Two weeks later I had an appointment with the physio therapist to start doing physio. That day I was already doing everything right and my movement was excellent and I was discharged from going to any more appointments as I could do all of the movement already, I 100% believe that was because Mr Sorial had done an excellent job of giving me a new knee. I highly recommend and I’m truly grateful to Mr Sorial, he has honestly given me a pain free knee that I haven’t had for over 25 years.
