Liposuction is typically carried out as a day case procedure under local or general anaesthetic and takes between one and two hours depending on the amount of fat you are having removed and the area being treated.

Your surgeon will make a small incision in the area being treated and insert a thin plastic tube called a cannula. The cannula is used to loosen the fat. The other end of this cannula is attached to a powerful high-pressure vacuum and fat deposits are removed quickly and efficiently from beneath your skin.

Some surgeons inject solutions into the area being treated, known as a wet technique. Others use dry liposuction.

You may have multiple areas treated at the same time.

Your incision will finally be stitched using dissolvable sutures and bandaged.
