Many people have a form of incontinence at some time in their lives. It is not rare, nor is it restricted to elderly people.
If you suffer from incontinence something can probably be done about it regardless of your age. There is strong evidence supporting the effectiveness of physiotherapy in the treatment of prolapses and incontinence. Pelvic floor muscles need to be exercised regularly to maintain their strength. We offer treatment in private and confidential surroundings to re-educate and strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommend Women’s Health Physiotherapy as the first line of treatment for these conditions.
West Midlands Hospital Physiotherapy department offers a specialist Pregnancy, Post Natal and Women’s Health Physiotherapy service.
You will be seen by a specialist Women’s’ health physiotherapist with extensive experience and advanced training from the Pelvic Obstetric and Gynecological Physiotherapy (POGP) special interest group. The team work closely with the consultants at West Midlands Hospital to provide a multidisciplinary service.
All treatments are carried out in a designated treatment room separate from the main physiotherapy department. All information will be completely confidential, and you will be treated with respect, dignity and understanding.
At the first visit, we assess your problems, discuss your lifestyle, medical and surgical history and, if necessary, conduct a physical examination.
This session usually takes an hour. Following the assessment, your physiotherapist will discuss the findings, recommend possible treatments, and design a specific treatment plan. Your consultant and general practitioner will be kept informed of your progress (with your consent).
