Celebrating International Nurses Day 2026 at Ramsay Health Care UK

International Nurses Day, celebrated every year on 12th May, recognises the extraordinary contribution nurses make to healthcare and patient care around the world. Marking the birthday of modern nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale, the day shines a spotlight on the compassion, expertise and dedication nurses bring to patients every day.

At Ramsay Health Care UK, International Nurses Day provides an opportunity to celebrate the exceptional clinical teams working across the organisation and the difference they make to patients, colleagues and communities every day.

Jo Dickson, Chief Clinical and Quality Officer at Ramsay Health Care UK, said:

“International Nurses Day and International ODP Day are a meaningful opportunity for us to recognise and celebrate the impact our nurses have on our patients, for colleagues, and for each other. This year’s themes say it perfectly: ‘Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives’ and ‘People, Planet and Progress’.

“What makes me proud to lead clinical teams at Ramsay is the standard our clinical staff set, they combine technical excellence with personalised connections, they support one another through busy and complex days, and keep patients at the centre of every decision. That is exactly what ‘People caring for people’ looks like in real life.”

Across Ramsay Health Care UK hospitals, nurses play a vital role in delivering safe, compassionate and high-quality care, supporting patients through every stage of their healthcare journey.

Zöe Law, Student Nurse at Park Hill Hospital, shares an insight into her career pathway and how she aims to make patients feel under her nursing care.

“For the past 12 years, I have been proud to work at Park Hill Hospital, where I started as a Healthcare Assistant, progressed to a Nursing Associate and now a Student Nurse which allows me to support patients throughout every stage of their healthcare journey. My daily work involves close collaboration with patients, colleagues, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure that everyone feels welcomed, informed, and genuinely cared for.

“My motivation for pursuing a career in nursing comes from a long-standing desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives, particularly during moments when they may feel vulnerable or unsure. Providing reassurance, compassion, and practical support is something I find deeply fulfilling.

“I recognise that coming into hospital can be an anxious experience for many individuals. Because of this, I make it a priority to listen attentively, offer clear explanations, and create a calm, friendly environment. By being approachable and taking the time to understand each patient’s concerns, I aim to help them feel more comfortable and confident during their visit.”

The impact of nursing care is also reflected in the feedback shared by Ramsay patients across the UK:

“Everybody did all they could to put me at my ease, appreciating that I was probably anxious. One of the nurses held my hand throughout the procedure, which I found very reassuring. Thank you, everybody!”
