Purpose Coalition Engagement Director and former Member of Keir Starmer’s Shadow Cabinet, Nick Forbes CBE has visited Purpose Coalition partner and leading independent healthcare provider, Ramsay Health Care UK, to see first-hand its work at Tees Valley Hospital.

Nick Forbes leads the Purpose Coalition’s work on engagement with the Labour Party, advising members on Labour Party policy, particularly in the context of the party’s Missions for government. Nick previously served as Leader of Newcastle City Council, and Leader of Labour in local government, as the voice of thousands of Labour Councillors in Westminster. Nick also served in Keir Starmer’s Shadow Cabinet from 2020 - 2022 providing crucial insight as the party formed its plans for government.

During the visit which was hosted by Ramsay UK CEO Nick Costa and local Hospital Director Donna Thornton, Nick toured the hospital to see the services on offer, which includes orthopaedics, general surgery, gynaecology and diagnostic services. Nick also took part in a staff roundtable, hearing first-hand how Ramsay delivers high quality healthcare locally, whilst also providing strong social impact for colleagues and the wider community.

Tees Valley Hospital opened in February 2018 and is part of Ramsay UKs network of private hospital services. The hospital is Teesside’s newest private hospital situated on the doorstep of the Tees Valley community and provides surgical, medical and assessment services on the grounds of Acklam Hall in Middlesbrough.

Nick Forbes CBE said: “It was great to meet with Nick Costa and see the work of Ramsay Health Care UK at Tees Valley Hospital for myself, hearing directly from the team about the fantastic work they do.

Ramsay provides a vital role in delivering high quality patient care, driving down waiting lists, and delivering skilled job opportunities and progression in local communities. I look forward to continuing to work with Ramsay as they continue their work to deliver high quality care and deliver strong social impact”

Ramsay Health Care UK CEO Nick Costa said: “It was brilliant to welcome Nick Forbes to Tees Valley Hospital. From the ever present warm Teesside welcome, following the patient pathway around the hospital and hearing about the individual experiences of our colleagues, I was delighted that we could present how the team, in collaboration with our doctors and the broader health community is providing excellent healthcare and fresh prospects throughout Teesside. Ramsay has always been built on the mantra of ‘people caring for people’ and the premise of doing right by our patients, colleagues and communities.

I look forward to continuing to work with Nick through the Purpose Coalition and building on our measurable commitments set out in our Impact Report last year, and we continue to work in partnership to deliver safe, quality patient outcomes and operate as a force for good in the UK.”

Tees Valley Hospital Director Donna Thornton said “It was a pleasure to welcome Nick Forbes to Tees Valley Hospital to showcase our work providing high quality, patient centred healthcare locally and meet with our fantastic team.

Tees Valley Hospital plays a vital role as part of the wider health community to deliver for patients across Teesside, the wider North East and North Yorkshire, so it was great to showcase our work and for Nick to hear from our team first hand.”
