After five years of suffering with constant pain, I decided it was finally time to have the operation
I’m 67, still passionate about keeping active. I enjoy watching and participating in sports, as well as reading and watching films, so being active and enjoying my everyday life is important to me.
However, for around five years I had been living with constant knee pain. I’d tried numerous injections to help manage it, but eventually I decided that I’d had enough and it was time to consider surgery.
I first heard about Rowley Hall Hospital through a recommendation from a friend. Having that personal recommendation gave me confidence when I was deciding where to have my treatment.
I met with Mr Paringe, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon for my initial consultation and found him to be very calm, knowledgeable and reassuring. Following that consultation, I felt comfortable with my decision to go ahead with the procedure which was robotic-assisted partial knee replacement surgery.
I chose robotic-assisted surgery because of the potential benefits it offered compared with traditional methods of surgery.
For me, it was the promise of better precision, quicker rehabilitation and less pain that particularly appealed.
I wanted to get back to enjoying my normal activities, and the prospect of a quicker recovery was important to me.
My experience at Rowley Hall Hospital was very good, all the staff I interacted with throughout my journey were knowledgeable and helpful. I was particularly impressed with the location of the hospital and thought the rehabilitation was excellent.
Mr Paringe has also been excellent. He was very calm and knowledgeable, which gave me confidence throughout the process.
It’s still early days since my partial knee replacement, but things are going well so far, and my rehabilitation is progressing very well.
After living with constant pain for five years, it’s encouraging to feel that I’m moving in the right direction and working towards getting back to the things I enjoy.
I would wholeheartedly recommend it.
If you’re living with ongoing knee pain and considering surgery, my experience so far has been very positive. I’m pleased with how my rehabilitation is going and hopeful about getting back to enjoying an active life without the constant pain I had before.
