Mr Omar Khan is a Consultant General Surgeon at Ashtead Hospital in Surrey who specialises in Weight Loss surgery.
Mr Omar Khan is a Consultant General Surgeon with a specialist interest in weight loss surgery, gallbladder, acid reflux and hernia surgery. He has a NHS practice at St Georges Hospital, London (where he has been the lead surgeon in Upper GI surgeon) and has performed over 1500 keyhole procedures with excellent results including:
• Gastric sleeve
• Gastric band
• Gastric bypass
• Gastric balloon
• Revisional weight loss surgery
• Interventions for acid reflux including STRETTA and LINX
• Gallstones and gallbladder surgery
• Hernia repair surgery
He studied at the University of Cambridge, and undertook his clinical training in Nottingham and Southampton (where he completed a PhD in obesity and cardiovascular disease).
Mr Khan has an interest in patient safety and is on the National Bariatric Surgery Registry Committee - the national body responsible for publishing and monitoring outcomes in weight loss surgery in the UK. He also acts as an independent medicolegal witness, giving expert medical opinions on weight-loss surgical cases.
Mr Khan is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at St George’s Medical School and a senior examiner for medical undergraduates. He has published over 160 articles on all aspects of surgery and his weight loss research has been featured in the national and international press.
