Mr Ramanathan is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon. His special interests are minimal incision cataract/refractive surgery and the management of retinal diseases. Mr Ramanathan has responsibility for the delivery of AMD (Age-related Macular Degeneration) service for the local population and his areas of expertise also include management of Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinal Venous Occlusion and Uveitis, using Laser photocoagulation and intra-vitreal therapies. He provides general ophthalmic care for Glaucoma (laser iridotomy, laser trabeculoplasty) dry eyes, conjunctival/corneal infections, eye lid cysts and tumours.
Mr Ramanathan commenced his training in Ophthalmology at the Royal Eye Hospital, Manchester and was then appointed as Specialist Registrar at the Glasgow Eye Infirmary where he completed his specialty training. This was followed by sub specialty fellowship in retinal diseases at the Sussex Eye Hospital, Brighton.
He was an investigator for IVAN and MERLOT, major national clinical trials evaluating the safety and efficacy of treatment options for Wet Macular Degeneration and is the author of a number of scientific papers
