As well as day case arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery and ligament reconstruction I have extensive experience in cartilage repair and treatment of complex patello-femoral disorders. Following an appointment as consultant orthopaedic surgeon in 1997 after higher surgical training in London, a Harvard Fellowship in USA and a Trauma Fellowship in Austria I have established a multi-disciplinary specialist knee surgery service in York, assessing and treating all types of knee disorder, including sports injuries as well as arthritic conditions. My current research interests include membership of and leadership of international evaluation teams assessing the outcome of high flexion total knee replacement, partial knee replacement as well as new implant and instrumentation development. I have a prominent role in the planning and delivery of orthopaedic education to students at Hull York Medical School. I am also actively involved in teaching knee surgical techniques to other surgeons, regionally, nationally and internationally, giving invited lectures and participating as course faculty. Consultant colleagues from throughout the UK regularly visit Clifton Park to observe me operate.

Patient Feedback

  • Mr Gibbon has performed 2 separate operations on me. Both times in a professional manner. I have 100% confidence in him.
    November 2022
  • “I would like to thank you for doing such a good job! You were very reassuring at the first consultation and immediately prior to the operation, putting my mind at rest completely. I feel I have had a good recovery and although it is obviously still swollen and somewhat stiff, my knee is functioning well and I am walking better already. I would like to express my gratitude for all you have done for me.”
