Dr Anup Bagade is a Consultant in Pain Management in Hertfordshire, who specialises in various pain conditions like Musculoskeletal pain including Back Pain, Sciatica, Neck Pain, Chronic Widespread Pain, various neuropathic pain conditions (nerve related pain), chronic headaches.
I am a Consultant in Pain Medicine, primarily based in Hertfordshire.
I became a consultant in 2012 after completing specialist training in Pain Medicine at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
I have dedicated my career to caring for people living with a wide range of chronic pain conditions, many of whom have been experiencing persistent symptoms for a long period of time. I am very mindful of the impact chronic pain can have, not only on physical function, but also on emotional wellbeing, work, and relationships.
Persistent pain often arises from a complex interaction between anatomical structures and the nervous system and has a biopsychosocial component. There can be variation in professional opinion regarding how chronic pain should be managed.
Patients are commonly referred to my pain clinic following assessment by their GP, other primary care clinicians, medical or surgical specialties. In many cases, a definitive diagnosis may not have been identified, a cure may not be available, or a non-surgical approach has been agreed.
Within my pain clinic, my role is therefore not necessarily to establish a new diagnosis, but to focus on symptom management, activity modification, functional improvement, and improving quality of life.
My approach to chronic pain management is holistic and individualised, and may include education, self-management strategies, medication review, signposting to other relevant services, and, where appropriate, interventional procedures.
Medications or injections may not always be the best option. Management plans are tailored to the individual, weighing indications, risks, potential benefits, and limitations. Outcomes are not always predictable and may vary despite similar symptoms and management plans.
