Dr Ghulam Hussain Saqib is an experienced Consultant in Medicine for Older People and Parkinson’s Disease with over 20 years of international clinical experience across Ireland and the UK. He is currently the Clinical Lead for Medicine for Older People at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust and the Parkinson’s Disease Specialist for patients over the age of 65 across the Trust.
He specialises in frailty, Parkinsonism and movement disorders, falls, rehabilitation, and complex medical conditions, with a strong focus on maintaining independence, dignity, and quality of life. His approach to Geriatric Medicine is centred around internationally recognised principles, ensuring holistic, compassionate, and patient-focused care tailored to what matters most to each individual patient. This includes supporting mental wellbeing, cognitive health, and delirium prevention; promoting safe mobility, balance, falls prevention, rehabilitation, and functional independence; optimising medications and reducing unnecessary treatments; and providing expert multidisciplinary management of frailty and multiple long-term conditions through personalised and collaborative care.

Dr Ghulam Saqib completed his primary medical qualification and internship in Pakistan before moving to Ireland in 2001 to pursue postgraduate medical training. He completed his Basic Specialist Training (BST) in General Internal Medicine and subsequently achieved Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (MRCPI).
During his specialist training in Ireland, Dr Saqib gained extensive experience in Medicine for Older People across leading teaching hospitals, including the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital Dublin. His training covered acute geriatrics, stroke medicine, rehabilitation, community geriatrics, intermediate care, palliative medicine, and specialist movement disorder and Parkinson’s disease clinics.
He further enhanced his leadership and healthcare service development expertise by completing a Diploma in Healthcare Management from University College Dublin. Following this, he contributed to the development of innovative and award-winning elderly care services, including rapid access elderly care pathways, post-acute care units, and stroke rehabilitation services.
Dr Saqib has maintained a strong commitment to medical education throughout his career. He has served as a Tutor for University College Dublin and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, and has worked as an Examiner for the MRCPI examinations, Diploma in Medicine for the Elderly, and final-year medical students.
Since moving to the United Kingdom in 2015, Dr Saqib has continued his academic and educational involvement alongside his consultant practice. He currently serves as a Royal College of Physicians Tutor for trainee doctors and actively supervises Specialist Registrars, Core Medical Trainees, GP trainees, and Foundation doctors.
His academic interests are focused on frailty, healthy ageing, rehabilitation medicine, movement disorders, and Parkinson’s disease in older adults. He remains actively engaged in continuing professional development, clinical governance, quality improvement, and research activities, including involvement in Parkinson’s disease research studies and service innovation projects.
