Dr Mohana Maddula is a Consultant Geriatrician and troke Physician with extensive experience across the UK and New Zealand healthcare systems.
He is recognised for his leadership in stroke medicine, healthcare improvement, patient safety, and services for older people. Currently based at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, Mohana combines frontline clinical practice with strategic leadership roles focused on improving outcomes for people affected by stroke and age-related conditions.
His work spans acute care, rehabilitation, service redesign, clinical governance, and workforce development. Throughout his career, Mohana has led the development of innovative healthcare services, including Rapid Access TIA pathways, Early Supported Stroke Discharge services, stroke thrombectomy pathways, telemedicine-enabled stroke care, and proactive models of care for older adults.
He has held senior leadership positions in both the UK and New Zealand, including Medical Leader for a large multidisciplinary medical division, Head of Department for Health in Ageing, Clinical Lead for Stroke Services, and Associate Non-Executive Director at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.
Alongside his clinical and leadership work, Mohana has a strong commitment to education, mentorship, research, and innovation. He is a Fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, holds postgraduate qualifications in Clinical Education and Translational Neuroimaging, and is a Healthcare Technology and Innovation Fellow. He has contributed to national stroke strategy, led research focused on improving equity and outcomes in stroke care, and published widely in stroke medicine, geriatrics, rehabilitation, and healthcare improvement.
