Academic Background

Dr. Simon Ralphs is a highly experienced gastroenterologist with a focus on high quality endoscopy and early cancer detection. He graduated from Newcastle Medical School in 1999. After completing his registration in 2001 he worked in Australia until 2002 before returning to the UK. 

He has been specialising in gastroenterology since 2005 beginning with a fellowship at the renowned gastrointestinal unit at St. Mark's hospital in London where he gained specialist experience in inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition and intestinal failure. 

He went on to complete his training in North West Thames working at St. Mary’s Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital and the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital amongst others. He took two years out researching novel diagnostic techniques for early cancer detection at Imperial College London.

He gained a consultant post in Colchester in 2014 where he quickly took an interest in improving the endoscopy services becoming Clinical Lead for endoscopy in 2015. He became a Bowel Cancer Screening endoscopist shortly afterwards and has been the Clinical Director of the North Essex Bowel Cancer Screening centre since 2017 overseeing screening for the patients from both the Colchester and Ipswich Hospital Catchment areas.

He manages a wide range of GI problems and offers the highest quality endoscopy procedures for his patients at the Oaks Hospital.
