Dr Zeljko Baricevic is a Consultant Cardiologist in Truro, Cornwall
I am a consultant interventional cardiologist with specialist expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease using minimally invasive techniques, as well as the management of heart valve disease. My practice encompasses both interventional procedures and advanced cardiac imaging, allowing for a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to patient care.
My particular areas of expertise include:
Coronary angiography, angioplasty and stenting – assessment and treatment of narrowed or blocked coronary arteries to relieve angina and prevent heart attacks.
Complex coronary intervention – including management of multivessel and calcified disease, chronic total occlusions, and high-risk coronary procedures.
Invasive coronary physiology and imaging – using techniques such as pressure wire assessment (FFR/dFR) and intravascular imaging (IVUS) to guide precise, tailored treatments.
Heart valve disease – expert evaluation of aortic, mitral and tricuspid valve disorders, including suitability for minimally invasive transcatheter therapies.
Echocardiography – advanced imaging for detailed assessment of heart structure and function, including transoesophageal echocardiography, dobutamine stress echocardiography and valve disease evaluation.
Comprehensive cardiac assessment – diagnosis and management of chest pain, shortness of breath, heart murmurs, irregular heartbeat and other cardiovascular symptoms.
My clinical approach combines technical expertise with individualised patient care, ensuring that each decision is guided by the latest evidence, detailed assessment and multidisciplinary discussion whenever appropriate. I am committed to delivering the highest standard of contemporary cardiovascular care within a professional and compassionate environment.

Croatian Cardiac Society:
- former member of the Nucleus of the Working group on echocardiography and cardiac imaging;
- past president of the Working group on cardiologists of tomorrow (April 2014 - March 2016)
I completed medical school, general internal medicine and cardiology training and developed sub-speciality skills in the areas of intensive and advanced cardiac care and interventional cardiology in Croatia, before moving to the UK in 2018.
Having worked as a consultant in the largest tertiary cardiac centre in Croatia, I gained extensive experience in different modalities of echocardiography, advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support (heart pumps) and heart transplantation.
Since January 2018, I have been practicing as a cardiology consultant at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. In addition to general cardiology commitments and imaging activities, I have been actively contributing to the provision of complex and high-risk coronary procedures. I have also taken an active role in establishing a dedicated heart valve service in Cornwall.
