Search for a Specialist
Mr William Chambers MSc, FRCS specialises in abdominal surgery and the diagnosis of gastrointestinal disorders.
William Chambers is a specialist colorectal surgeon working at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital and Exeter’s Nuffield Hospital.
His principle interests are laparoscopic and pelvic floor surgery and he performs laparoscopic colorectal resection and laparoscopic hernia repair as well as a full range of pelvic floor procedures including laparoscopic rectopexy, STARR, and sacral nerve stimulation. He also offers state of the art treatment for haemorrhoids.
For appointments regarding general surgical problems including abdominal and groin hernias, bowel disease and screening, a GP referral letter is preferred. A consultation with your GP is not always necessary to obtain this.
For second opinions regarding potential bowel surgery or abdominal wall reconstruction an assessment may be carried out without a GP letter. However, for a fully informative discussion, consent from your GP and results of radiological and pathological investigations considerably improve the accuracy of the discussion.
He graduated from the Royal Free Medical School in 1996 and underwent surgical training in the London and Oxford regions. After research into the genetics of colorectal cancer at Cancer Research UK in London, he completed two years of specialist colorectal training at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and at Auckland City Hospital in New Zealand. After completing a Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellowship in Bristol, he was appointed as a specialist colorectal surgeon in Exeter.
He has published over twenty peer reviewed papers on elements of colorectal surgery and contributed to a recent Oxford University Press book on pelvic floor disorders. He has presented papers on colorectal disease nationally and internationally and is a member of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland.
