Professor Bruce Campbell is one of the UK’s best known vein experts.
He has experience of treating several thousand patients with varicose veins and has specialised for many years in microsclerotherapy treatment for thread veins and other small veins on the legs.
For varicose veins Bruce Campbell offers a range of treatment options including cyanoacrylate glue ablation, foam sclerotherapy, and surgery. These treatments are all on a walk-in walk-out basis, in the Exeter Medical operating theatres, with an experienced team. He works in close liaison with Mr Philip Niblett, Consultant Clinical Scientist, for all duplex ultrasound scanning of veins.
He has been a leader of major research studies on varicose vein treatments and how patients benefit from them. He has written and lectured extensively on new treatments for varicose veins and on the problems that varicose veins can cause (ulcers, thrombosis, phlebitis). Prof Bruce Campbell is a Council Member of the Venous Forum of the Royal Society of Medicine – the main professional organisation for UK vein specialists.
He was a leader of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland for many years. He chaired production of guidance for the NHS on new procedures and medical devices for NICE (the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence during 2002-15. He is a Non-Executive Director of the government Agency for all medicines and medical devices (the MHRA).
