Academic background

Mr Settas gained his Medical Doctorate from the Medical School of Athens in 1996. He acquired a Postgraduate Diploma in Aviation Medicine in 1998 and he flew numerous Search & Rescue missions between 1998 and 2000. He commenced his surgical training in Ophthalmology in 2003 at the University Hospital of Heraklion, Crete, where he received extensive exposure to Corneal as well as Intraocular Refractive Surgery.

His first ophthalmology training post in the UK was at the Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust and from there he moved to Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust before accepting a Vitreoretinal Fellow post at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge.

He gained his Specialist Registration in 2008, completed a Fellowship in Refractive Surgery and acquired the Postgraduate Diploma in Cataract and Refractive Surgery in 2008-2009. He has held The Royal College of Ophthalmologists’ Certificate in Laser Refractive Surgery since 2009. To date he has performed more than 4,000 procedures, including LASIK, LASEK, PRK, Phakic intraocular lens implantations, as well as Cataract extractions and Refractive Lens Exchange procedures for presbyopia.
