Miss Shahid offers consultations for the diagnosis and management of a range of eye conditions including: cataract, glaucoma, ocular hypertension, capsular thickening after cataract surgery; eyelid lumps and cysts; blepharitis and dry eyes. Miss Shahid is currently Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at Addenbrooke’s hospital, Cambridge. She graduated in Medicine from Trinity College, University of Oxford in 1998. Since then she has trained in several leading Ophthalmology units, including the Tennant Institute of Ophthalmology and the Oxford Eye Hospital. She completed 3 years of advanced fellowship training in Glaucoma both in Oxford and Cambridge, before being appointed Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Addenbrookes Hospital in 2013. Miss Shahid is a glaucoma specialist who is often asked to manage refractory cases of glaucoma and regularly performs a range of glaucoma procedures including trabeculectomy, glaucoma drainage device surgery, selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), cyclodiode laser and peripheral laser iridotomy. In addition to glaucoma Miss Shahid is a very experienced cataract surgeon having performed several thousand cataract operations, many of which are complex cases. She is able to offer the full range of intraocular lens implants including monofocal, multifocal, and toric lenses to suit each patient on a highly individualized basis.Miss Shahid has a research interest in genetics of complex eye disease and has published widely throughout her career. Her MRC-funded research at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research led to landmark publications in the New England Journal of Medicine and Nature genetics and the award of a Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Oxford. Miss Shahid is committed to the teaching and training of future generations of healthcare professionals, including medical students, junior doctors and optometrists. She is involved in the Glaucoma Fellowship programme to specifically train future glaucoma specialists. Miss Shahid is a trustee for the Cambridge Eye Trust which is committed to promoting ophthalmic research in Cambridge.
