He gained along the way a Masters Degree in Orthopaedic Engineering from Cardiff University. He finished his training at the Orthopaedic and Arthritic Institute, affiliated to Sunnybrook Hospital, University of Toronto, Canada from 2002 to 2003. During this 12 month fellowship he specialised in complex knee replacement and knee ligament surgery. He was appointed as a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics at Torbay Hospital in 2003
