Mr Michael Kent is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in hip and knee replacements.
Mr Kent is a fellowship trained Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with special interests in hip and knee replacement, partial knee replacement, arthroscopic knee surgery and trauma. He is a strong believer in Enhanced Recovery principles, enabling patients to mobilise more quickly after joint replacement surgery. He practices at Torbay and Mount Stuart Hospitals in Torquay.
Mr Kent qualified as a doctor from Guy’s King’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals Medical School and completed basic surgical training in Australia and on the south coast before being appointed to the Wessex higher training scheme in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in 2007. He achieved Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2013. Mr Kent undertook eighteen months of overseas fellowship training in the fields of primary and revision hip and knee replacement, complex limb reconstruction, orthopaedic oncology surgery and trauma at Fremantle and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospitals in Western Australia, On return to the UK, Mr Kent completed a further fellowship at University Hospital Southampton, concentrating on periprosthetic fractures, major trauma, arthroscopic knee surgery and partial knee replacement. Mr Kent gained a postgraduate MSc in Trauma Surgery from the University of Swansea in 2013. He has published research papers in his fields of interest, including enhanced recovery after joint replacement and service improvement in trauma, which he has also presented at international conferences.
